Since the beginning of Clive Cussler books, Dirk Pitt the adventurous character in his Numa files novels has been through a stack of adventures similar to the real life experiences of Clive Cussler himself. NUMA stands for the National Underwater and Marine Agency and is a real life creation of Clive Cussler and friends.

Clive Cussler spends time between his writing of Dirk Pitt novels as an adventurer and shipwreck hunter and has also written a few books on his adventurers as a shipwreck hunter caller the Sea Hunters.

Isaac Bell

Clive Cussler also has an interest in Locomotive history and has co-written several books recently with acclaimed author Justin Scott about the adventures of a new character set in the 1920's as a detective for the Van Dorn Detective Agency and weaves an intricate plot involving the exploits of the lead character detective Isaac Bell.

Dirk and Summer Pitt

Clive Cussler has a son named Dirk Cussler, who has co-written a few books with Clive with the main characters being the twin kids of Dirk Pitt, being Dirk jnr and Summer Pitt. Both being advanced scuba divers and working under their semi retired diver father Dirk Pitt.

In the Oregon files series, Clive Cussler and co-writer Jack De Brul introduce an ex CIA operative turned mercenary named Juan Cabrillo. Having lost his leg and learnt to still function as the sharpest ship captain in the open water and with a disguised high tech ship called the Oregon, Cabrilo and his team take on black ops work for various enterprises and government around the world.

Sam and Remi Fargo

Clive Cussler and co-writer Grant Blackwood introduce the husband and wife team of Remi and Sam Fargo as treasure hunters with extensive training and although retired still take on the toughest of mysteries and searches whilst trailing lost historical objects around the world whilst using counter espionage to keep ahead of the enemies hunting the same treasures for misguided use.

Kurt Austin

Kurt Austin is another character introduced by Clive Cussler and co -written with Paul Kemprecos. Kurt Ausitn is an associate to Dirk Pitt as a collegue workong for the National Underwater and Marine Agency (NUMA)
